Farm Bird!!

Great White Egrets are special birds, the size of a Grey Heron and whiter than a Swan. Normally you would expect such an exotic looking bird to be in a lagoon somewhere warm, not a farm pond in rural Angus in winter. On my first visit the bird was approachable but the light was rubbish resulting in some OK photos.

Two days later I returned late on a prefect day with low winter sun. Not only that but the bird was even closer catching a stickleback every 15 seconds or so. After a few very good action shots with unfortunate fish clearly in the beak it flew to the other side of the pond with the background in shadow, I quickly repositioned and adjusted the exposure to give a black background. The egret did the rest.

Hope you have a great 2012
